I promise this will be my last blog about my recent trip to the Middle East, but going to the country of Oman was one of the highlights so I would be amiss if I didn’t detail it. Oman is an independent monarchy, ruled by a Sultan, whose picture is posted almost everywhere one looks. As recently as five years ago, Oman had an open border; that has all since changed. Why I Write
I am continually asked why I write, and I have really had to think long and hard about that question. It is difficult to answer because it is like asking someone why do you race bikes or why do you paint, etc. Their answers would probably be “because I enjoy it” or “because I can”. Both are similar to what I would say. [Read more…] about Why I Write

Chapter 2, Part II
Cindy Bradford
Riding into town, Patrick looked out the window of the Greyhound and decided he had stepped back in time. Along the main street were three clothing stores, all adorned with faded awnings of various colors and styles, but inside each window were mannequins dressed in plaid dresses or paisley jackets, several tilted or slightly askew probably as a result of unwatched children crawling through the tempting displays. All manner of plastic decorations lined the windows along with footballs and pompoms, a couple of used helmets and an occasional red and white jersey. Back to School banners hung on outside posts, announcing special sales. Across the street stood what appeared to have once been a Woolworth’s, its lettering still visible under a thin or worn coat of paint. On top of the flat roofed building stood a giant sign, flashing red in the shape of 5¢. Hand drawn in shoe polish on the window of the front door were the words, Under New Ownership. Come see what you can get for a dime. Fountain open daily 11:00 ‘til 4:00. Best sodas and grilled cheese sandwiches in town. [Read more…] about Keeping Faith: Chapter 2 Part II
Henna Hands–What Was I Thinking?
What was I thinking?? When in Rome do as the Romans?? I succumbed to peer pressure in a temporary lapse of judgment and had Henna applied to my hands while I was in the Middle East. Although most of the worst is gone, it now looks like age spots, which I don’t need any help with! [Read more…] about Henna Hands–What Was I Thinking?
Review of Keeping Faith from The Book Journal
Guest Post by Chris Cobb:
I have certainly had fun working with Cindy in getting her first book, Keeping Faith, published and creating an online brand for her as an up and coming author. Early in the process, I set up Cindy’s Twitter account and started following book bloggers, avid readers and other independent writers. This is indeed a different and interesting group of people from the Internet marketers that are following my own Twitter account. [Read more…] about Review of Keeping Faith from The Book Journal

chapter 2
East Texas, 1970
The bus ride from Boston to East Texas gave Patrick plenty of time to think. Night had come shortly after he boarded and the darkness left him feeling lonely, empty and a little apprehensive. He had never been away from home for more than a week and now he was going off to college to a place he had never seen, eighteen hundred miles from home. The steady buzz of the air conditioner had lulled many of the passengers into various stages of sleep, but it didn’t come so easy for him. Watching the distant lights of an occasional town, he thought about the big universities in the East and Midwest whose coaches had promised him scholarships. Now those assurances were as limp as his old duffle, wedged beneath his seat. [Read more…] about Keeping Faith: Chapter 2 Part I
