Heading to Dallas… Although that area was home for 25 years, I don’t get that way very often, so I am excited and looking forward to it. I’m having lunch with a group of educational colleagues that I haven’t seen in quite some time, so I’m sure we’ll have stories to tell. If you are a former student and your ears burn this week, that’s why!
We’re meeting in Cedar Hill where I lived many years so it will be fun to see the changes that community has undergone, and there are many. When I lived there, it barely had fast food places; now it has every chain restaurant one could ask for as well as numerous shopping areas. I felt lucky that we had a K-Mart.
On Friday, my family and I are going to get together and celebrate what would have been my mother’s 100th birthday. We will honor her life and the many happy moments that she added to all of ours. As you know from many of my blogs, she was a special woman; years ahead of her time—strong and steadfast. It will be fun to see the extended family and share stories that have occurred since we were last together.
And Saturday promises to be a hoot. Three of my very best friends from high school and I are getting together all day and into the night to reminisce. I know my stomach will hurt on Sunday from all the laughter. We have so much to rehash, and so many people to talk about that I doubt we finish. Anybody’s ears from the class of 1969 could burn. It’s been a long time since we’ve had this opportunity, and I can’t wait. Sure hope they don’t look old!!!!

Paragraphs on Padre

OK. It is Sunday morning. If you don’t have a hangover, it wasn’t as rowdy as you thought it might be. Was everyone like you pictured them?
It was great fun. Too many Arnold Palmers! I’ll explain.
Cindy, I was really sad to miss the reunion. I think about you often, am so pleased with your many successes, and am finally getting to read the novels. I had “Hannah with the big hair” and her cousin (Melissa’s sister’s daughter), and they had waited all summer to come. I recently found the DeSoto farewell party pictures–our Taco U night. What fun we all had. I’m sure you all had lots of fun catching up Wed.–maybe some of the conversation will be passed on to me. Working in Dallas ISD at my age–well, really any age–is a challenge, and it keeps me from keeping in touch with the special people in my life (like my South Padre buddies), but please know that I think of you all weekly. Don’t stay gone so long, Shirley
Hey Shirley,
I was disappointed that you couldn’t be at lunch. I would have loved to have visited with you, and caught up on old times. We pretty much talked about everyone!!!! Glad you are finally reading the books, but now that school is starting you probably won’t finish!! Why don’t you make the books mandatory reading for all your classes??? What a novel idea that would sell lots of books!! Thanks for thinking about me.
We loved catching up with you, Cindy. We all beam with pride when we talk about you and your accomplishments. Miss you and think of you often.
What great fun it was to see everyone. Loved catching up! Please stay in touch and read book 2!!!!
