Look At That Cool Cover
I am soooooooooooooo excited. Stop reading right now and go straight to “My Works” at the top of the web site or the side bar and look at the cover design for Keeping Faith. I hope you like it as much as I do. The little ring is quite significant, but that is as much info as you get right now. How’s that for a tease??
I had plenty of time to think about what all I needed to do on the book today because I had an appointment, which at any medical facility means that somewhere in a couple of hours timeframe, the person who is supposed to see you might. Fortunately, and as always I brought along a pen and paper, so that I would not be forced to read the June issue of Woman’s Day.
Today was that very special event when, due to the medical marvel of x-ray or something along those lines, I am able to have my annual mammogram. This year was a double whammy because I got my flu shot as well. Nothing like getting stuck and smashed in a single morning! Seriously, I am thankful for being given this benefit that many women in other less developed countries may never get.
But I have to be away from it a couple of hours to come to that realization. It is a humbling experience and a startling one at the exact second when the skin touches the icy metal and suddenly wedges itself, with the help of the equally cold hands of the radiology technician, in the killer vice that appears to look and feel like an antiquated form of torture. But at least it is over quickly, and I really like the tech. Vicky is such a dear and fun to see once a year.
Back when I taught at the university, her husband was one of my graduate students and a favorite one. He was sort of shy and always smiled. I didn’t know until several days after my first mammogram with her that they were married!! Imagine my surprise and slight horror. The only thing I could think about was their dinner conversation that night after my appointment. “Hey Hon, Guess whose boobs I saw today!!” No wonder he smiled.
But, I did learn something today though which made it all worthwhile; there may be another strain of the flu just starting to spread because as I walked out of the doctor’s office, a little lady stopped me, and in very broken English asked, “Do you know if they are giving the SWAN FLU shot here?” Geez, now the birds are carrying it again!!! Life is good, and I am blessed…with a warped sense of humor… and a whole lot more. Now, go back up and look at that cool cover.

Paragraphs on Padre
Cool…and very intriguing!!
I like the simplicity of the cover, makes me want to look inside to see what might be forthcoming.
Glad to hear your medical appointments went smoothly. Swine or Swan it’s going to be a rough winter!
Wonderful story — can’t wait for the next one!!! And if I have a vote on the flu type – swan or swine – I’ll pick swan…sounds more elegant!!!
I think we all deserve an advance copy. I really like the cover
and your name looks so good. Come for a book signing in Dallas
and we will attend in our Muu Moos. Better yet, have a gala on
the island to launch the book and we will all come.
Your cover is awesome. So simple and elegant to me. Don’t know how you thought this up but keep those dreams coming!
