Hauling Rocks & Writing

Third Book

I hauled 786 pounds of rocks recently—in my hands and arms, and my body is not very happy with me!! Actually, it doesn’t take many rocks to add up in weight, and I ran out before I finished the flower bed. I can’t say that I am sorry though because my ole back was telling me to stop.

I decided to plant less and fill in more with other materials, and I am pleased with the results. It gets so hot here in July and August that flowers that look good in May and June, appear pretty sick in the latter part of the summer. This hopefully will also save water and some maintenance. I love working in the yard, but when it is 100 degrees I tend to love doing other things more—like indoor stuff!!

But now that spring is here I am enjoying every minute I can outside. The hummingbirds are here, darting from feeder to feeder, and the days are a pleasant 80 odd degrees. Coffee in the morning on the upper veranda starts my morning off well, and then I write a few hours on book three before getting outdoors.

I’m not quite ready to tell anyone about this third book because it is in the very preliminary stages, but let me just say, it will have many twists and turns, and something for everybody—a story spun mainly in West and South Texas with some Mexican flavor from our friends to the south. Add a bit of mystery, and of course, some love and upheaval—life, I think they call it, and the book may just be beginning to click.

I actually started it a couple of years ago, but set it aside to edit Keeping Faith and Promises Kept so it’s taking me awhile to get back into the groove and study my notes. I believe it is more general fiction than the last two, and my male audience should be pleased, but it will definitely still have all those special elements that we women like to read about and become absorbed in.

Maybe by mid-summer I can share a little info, but right now, I’m putting all my thoughts back together, researching and fully developing the plot. Characters are coming alive slowly but surely, and I think you just may be surprised about a few of them. Well, that’s all the tease for now. If I could only find more time to write without interruptions, but that is my own fault because I have so many other interests….

Now you are teasing us with a 3rd book and we haven’t even gotten the 2nd. Do you EVER slow down? And, this is in the midst of all these schools you are evaluating!

OMG! 786 lbs of rock! Did they charge by the pound? If not, did you weigh those buggers? I saw that rock. I think they cheated you. Well, maybe you got more since I saw them.

Have fun in Ruidoso & be safe! 777

Well, I admit they run a line from the outside scales to some unknown place in their office.!! But they do charge by the pound. Hope you are winning in LV!! I’m certainly not winning here in Ruidoso. Surprise, surprise!!

A third book with surprising characters…you’ve known lots of them over the years, Cindy! You should have quite a well to draw from :) We’re contemplating the rock lined garden as well, but Don is daunted by the weight of the rocks. Gonna be in DFW anytime soon? I could use your help!

    Hey Kit,
Tell Don I said to get to work. Rock hauling makes one sleep well. I hope to get to DFW maybe in August. Hope your rocks are all settle4d in by then!! Ha. Happy Birthday!

Cindy, I remember the collection of stones/rocks your parents had around their flower beds. Nice memories.

I guess that is where I get my love for gardening and rocks. Daddy collected rocks on every vacation. Can’t say the Mother was as keen on the idea because they usually ended up under her feet!!
